Turning 38 and Figuring Out My Photography & Videography Journey

Turning 38 last week was a milestone that prompted some introspection. It's incredible how quickly time flies, especially when you're immersed in creative pursuits. This birthday felt different, though. It marked not just another year older, but a significant evolution in my journey as a photographer and videographer.

Those of you who've been following my work on Flickr, YouTube, and here, may have already sensed this shift. While photography will always be my foundation, the allure of videography has grown stronger over the past year. There's a unique magic in capturing the world in motion, weaving together visuals and sound to tell dynamic stories that unfold over time. It's a new challenge, a new way to connect with my audience, and a new avenue for creative expression.

Expanding My Toolkit for a New Era

This evolution has naturally led me to explore new tools and technologies to complement my trusted Fujifilm gear. My GFX100 II remains my go-to for client photoshoots, consistently delivering the exceptional image quality and resolution I demand. The X-T5 is still my faithful companion for everyday photography, discreetly capturing those fleeting moments of beauty and spontaneity that life throws my way. And when the need for speed arises, my X-H2S is ready to freeze the action, whether I'm shooting sports or wildlife.

Of course, life took on a whole new dimension with the arrival of my daughter, Alba. Now three years old, she's a constant source of inspiration and joy. The Ricoh GRIIIx has become an extension of my hand, documenting her childhood adventures and the everyday wonders of fatherhood. It's the perfect "dad cam," always ready to capture those precious, fleeting moments.

But the most exciting development in my toolkit is the addition of the LUMIX S9 and S5IIx. These full-frame cameras are game-changers, opening up a world of cinematic possibilities. The image quality is breathtaking, particularly in low-light conditions, and the autofocus performance is incredibly reliable. The S5IIx, with its internal ProRes recording and 6K capabilities, has become my weapon of choice for professional video projects. It gives me the flexibility and image quality I need to meet the demands of my clients and deliver truly captivating video content.

More Than Just Gear: A Shift in Perspective

This evolution isn't just about new cameras and lenses; it's about a shift in perspective. I'm learning to see the world through a different lens, to think in terms of movement and sound, and to embrace the challenges and rewards of visual storytelling in a new medium.

This new chapter is filled with exciting possibilities. I'm eager to explore the creative potential of video, to push my boundaries, and to continue growing as an artist. I'm also excited to share this journey with you, my audience. Expect to see more video content on my website and social media channels, alongside my photography work.

I believe that this convergence of photography and videography will allow me to tell richer, more compelling stories and connect with you on a deeper level. So stay tuned, because the adventure is just beginning!
